New York City Water Tower Furniture: Originally conceived from the notion of recycling old wood, New York City Water Tower Furniture is evolving into a holistic Green business via the upcycling of discarded water tower wood into heirloom quality home furnishings.  We are committed to creatively utilizing of every bit of this unique resource, down to the sawdust.  We incorporate ecologically sound practices from local handmade production to our biodiesel fueled delivery vehicle, not only to minimize environmental impact, but also embrace our responsibility to the community.  NYCWTF is a company Green from the ground up.

Public Farm 1
P.S.1 MoMA

2007 finished with New Years in Hong Kong to visit family. The trip was amazing. I did some hiking on outlying islands, and mixed business with pleasure by visiting a few architecture and engineering firms in Hong Kong to discuss utilizing solar energy. I also had the opportunity to meet Prof. Yang Hong-xing the head of the Renewable Energy Research Group (RERG) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. My return to New York reengaged me with the completion of a 2nd piece with collective|4, an entryway bench. We finished the bench and the client loved it. Collective|4 recently completed a second shelf unit for a client in Los Angeles and entered the City Racks Competition for bike racks in NYC. Feel More Human has offered to carry our furniture in their online store. Slowly but surely we’re making a name for ourselves.

In April I began to consult with Work AC on their winning entry in the Young Architects Program at MoMA PS1. Their entry Public Farm1 (PF1) included an off-grid solar energy system to provide electricity for various AC and DC gadgets and appliances.
We designed the system and then acquired the equipment all via contribution. Through the assistance of volunteers, members of Work AC and altPower we successfully installed a 2kW solar array. PF1 opened June 21st and will be at PS1 all summer, possibly until October. I highly recommend attending their Summer Warm Up every Saturday from 3-9pm.

New York City Water Tower Furniture continues to grow. In May we had the opportunity to share a booth with Domestic Aesthetic at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in NYC. The show provided more visibility of our work to the public and within the design world. Inquiries continue to flow in, including an architecture firm in Los Angeles and a few online stores. In June the Discovery Channel filmed NYCWTF for Planet Green. The host and myself assisted in the disassembly of a wooden water tank and quickly built of a piece of furniture. The shoot was a 13 hour day but a lot of fun. Now with my first employee I look forward to fulfilling the orders we have and develop the company more formally.
