STEM
STEM (Social Thinking Empowerment Models) utilizes problem solving to formulate ideas and design goods in order to respond to the global demand for basic needs. The organization works with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community groups to build solutions that assist in supplying basic needs, empower local populations and provide an economic engine for long-term community development.
STEM’s first project will be to introduce a water collection system to the slums of Bangalore for use with public toilet and lavatory facilities. The goal is to assist in alleviating the lack of water in order to increase toilet usage among slum residents, thereby promoting increased sanitation and decreased rates of disease and infection.

STEM aspires to grow from a design- and project implementation-based firm to a consultancy, providing counsel to organizations worldwide on new ways to address basic needs issues and provide jobs and income to local populations.
As part of the Pratt Design Incubator, STEM has been very fortunate to receive feedback and suggestions in regards to their business plan. In addition to feedback, the resources provided by the Incubator, have really helped the team gain resources to others working in the social entrepreneurial field.
