West Elm
Over the summer, CSDS and Pratt Design Incubator partnered with West Elm to produce a series of green office furniture, that meets the criteria of third party certification programs (Greenguard Certification Program and Forest Stewardship Council). For eight weeks in June and July, thirteen Pratt Alumni and students, worked in two teams through research, research, concept development, “soft” prototypes, final concept development and technical drawings. Within those eight weeks, the design team design team presented concepts and received feedback from the West Elm. These midpoint presentations were very helpful for the designers refine and solidify their ideas. For the final presentation, the designers presented 11 different concepts, ranging from chairs, desks, shelves, lights and office accessories. West Elm chose 6 of those 11 to take to the next level of development and prototyping.
